Advent Day 14: Playing Favorites

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only
begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not
perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"I now realize how true it is that God does not show
favoritism." Acts 10:34

If you know more than one child, you know how important it is not to play favorites. As they get older, children become more and more
sensitive to partiality. Playing favorites is hurtful and destructive. Think about Jacob and Esau,or Joseph and his brothers, both stories of sibling rivalry caused by parental favoritism.

So, what does this have to do with Advent and Christmas? These scriptures remind me that we are all God's favorites. God loved the WORLD, past, present and future, so much that sending His only son to save us from ourselves was the option that God was willing to use.

There is a less frequently sung song in the hymnbook called "Love Came Down at Christmas". The title of this song says it all. Love came to us at Christmas. Love for all of us. Let us be thankful that we are all God's favorites.

Prayer: Thank you God that you were not willing to choose favorites and that you sent your Son to save us all. Amen
